On 6 November, another training session was held under the LEGAL HFC 4 LIFE project, entitled “Legislation and Practice vs. Safety When Working with Refrigerants” for the RAC industry. It was delivered in collaboration with Schiessl in Warsaw. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the evolving regulations in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry and, during the practical component, to familiarise themselves with the principles of safe refrigerant recovery.
The first, theoretical part of the session focused on issues related to the illegal trade in refrigerants. Participants were able to learn about, among other topics, refrigerant emissions originating from smuggling, the trade in prohibited HFC containers, and the environmental impact of these practices. The issue of illegal online refrigerant sales was also addressed. Participants engaged actively in discussion, which helped to deepen understanding of the topics presented.
After a break, the workshop component of the training took place, covering:
– refrigerant testing using gas analysers,
– workstation preparation and activity documentation,
– labelling of portable containers, including colour coding and warning labels,
– safe refrigerant recovery and equipment charging.
Feedback indicates that the training has been very well received. Participants had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of alternative refrigerants, refrigerant smuggling and the associated legislative changes. The skills acquired will enable specialists to deliver services to the highest standard, with full respect for the environment and in compliance with rigorous occupational safety requirements.
