On 5 December in Warsaw, the 21st conference in the series “Refrigeration and Air Conditioning in Poland — New Development Trends” took place. The event was attended by over 170 participants, for whom experts prepared 20 presentations covering legislative changes in the HVAC industry, operator and service technician obligations, technological trends, and installation and design aspects.
This year’s theme was New Technologies and Market Development Prospects for the HVACR Industry in the Light of Energy Efficiency Requirements and F-Gas Regulations.
During the first panel dedicated to the legislative and market environment, a presentation entitled LEGAL HFC 4 LIFE — the potential and risks associated with illegal trade in smuggled refrigerants was delivered by Krzysztof Grzegorczyk — President of the PROZON Climate Protection Foundation and Marlena Ziółkowska — Head of the Environmental Protection Department at the PROZON Climate Protection Foundation.
Our speakers presented the objectives and goals of the LEGAL HFC 4 LIFE project, whose primary aim is to reduce HFC emissions from illegal trading by developing and implementing a model of cooperation between public authorities and other entities, and by creating tools to improve the reporting and monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions and the control of trade. Given the upcoming revision of Regulation 517/2014, there is a significant likelihood of a renewed increase in refrigerant smuggling, which is why the amendment of Poland’s national F-gas act is also so important — it will provide public authorities with the tools to combat smuggling even more effectively.
