The Paris Agreement

The long-term goal of the Agreement, as set out in Article 2, is to strengthen the response to the threat of climate change, in the context of sustainable development, by:

  • limiting global warming to well below 2°C, and pursuing efforts to limit it to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, in order to reduce the risks and impacts of climate change.
  • adapting to and reducing the effects of climate change, strengthening resilience and low-emission development in a manner that does not threaten food production.
  • making finance flows consistent with a pathway towards low greenhouse gas emissions and climate-resilient development.
