Climate change on our planet is a significant challenge for the functioning of humanity. The fact of climate warming is indisputable and has been confirmed by research carried out by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Global warming refers to the sustained rise in the average air temperature on Earth. Since 1890, the average temperature has been rising dangerously, approaching the critical threshold of 2 degrees Celsius (according to the IPCC, the safety threshold for the rise in average global temperature is 1.5 degrees). The consequences of this process are serious and felt by everyone around the world.

Rising sea levels, lack of access to drinking water, and direct threats to human life as a result of extreme weather events are just some of them. The IPCC’s position is also confirmed by the Polish Academy of Sciences. In a statement issued on 10 December 2018, it stated that human activity is the dominant cause of contemporary climate warming.

The emission into the atmosphere of HFC refrigerants — so-called F-gases — widely used in refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, also contributes to the greenhouse effect. These substances have a high global warming potential (GWP), which is several thousand times greater than an equivalent quantity of carbon dioxide. They are the only greenhouse gases covered by the Kyoto Protocol that are produced as a result of human activity.
